Delayed Justice for Decades: The State Still Owes Compensation to Forcibly Sterilized Roma Women.
It has been 23 years since the publication of the report Body and Soul, which exposed the practice of forced sterilizations of Roma women in Slovakia. Despite the formal apology issued by the Government of the Slovak Republic in 2021, the affected women are still waiting for fair and systemic compensation.
Forced sterilizations took place between 1966 and 2004, and to this day no law has been adopted that would enable their compensation. The Centre for Civil and Human Rights calls on the National Council of the Slovak Republic to finally address this long-standing issue and ensure justice for the affected women.
