On 7 July 2026, we met in Košice with a delegation from the thematic study group on Roma inclusion operating within the Economic and Social Rights Section of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

During the meeting, we presented to the members of the delegation our long-standing experience in providing legal assistance and monitoring the protection of the human rights of Roma in Slovakia. We discussed the barriers that Roma continue to face in exercising their rights, as well as the systemic measures needed to eliminate discrimination.

We paid particular attention to the segregation of Roma children in education, residential segregation, and the risk of forced evictions. These are areas in which we have long been engaged through legal aid, strategic litigation, human rights monitoring, and advocacy. We emphasized the responsibility of state authorities and local governments to adopt effective measures to prevent and eliminate discrimination, including segregation.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange practical experience and insights. We believe that information obtained directly from organizations working on the ground will contribute to the formulation of recommendations that strengthen the protection and promotion of the human rights of Roma in Slovakia and at the European level.

We thank the delegation for the open dialogue and for their interest in the human rights situation of Roma in Slovakia.
