Networking Meeting of Romani Women from Hungary and Slovakia in Herľany
On 13–14 April 2026, we organized a two-day networking meeting of Romani women from Hungary and Slovakia in Herľany. The aim of the event was to create a space for connecting, sharing experiences, providing mutual support, and strengthening cooperation among organizations and activists working to protect the rights of Romani women.
Over the course of the two days, participants focused on several important topics – from violations of the rights of Romani women, through presentations of participating organizations and their activities, to discussions on opportunities for strengthening cooperation and building a stronger support network.
The program included joint discussions, group work, and the sharing of practical experiences. Activities were also presented by the Hungarian organization Emma Egyesület, which introduced its work with Romani women, including the DULA program. Within this initiative, trained doulas accompany women during pregnancy, childbirth, and other important life situations.
We also presented our long-term work with Romani women, including regular meetings of Romani women activists who jointly advocate for justice and the protection of human rights.
The program also featured a presentation of inclusive historical research focused on the rights of Romani women, delivered by historian Kateřina from the Czech Republic.
We would like to thank all participants and guests for their openness, energy, and commitment to creating positive change. Together, we are building a stronger voice for Romani women.
