Since 1 September 2026, we have been implementing the new RISE project in cooperation with our partner organisation EMMA Egyesület from Hungary.

The RISE project focuses on discrimination, unequal treatment and violence that Roma women may face in gynaecological and obstetric healthcare. Its aim is to strengthen the voices and position of Roma women and support their active participation in shaping change in the area of sexual and reproductive health.

As part of the project, we will create a safe space for Roma women to share their experiences, foster solidarity among women, and increase their awareness of their rights. We will also connect women’s experiences and testimonies with professional and policy dialogue, with the aim of contributing to improvements in healthcare.

What will we focus on?

  • collecting and analysing the experiences and testimonies of Roma women in gynaecological and obstetric healthcare,
  • raising awareness of discrimination and violence in healthcare,
  • strengthening Roma women’s awareness of their rights and the ways in which they can exercise them,
  • creating space for mutual support and solidarity among women,
  • connecting the experiences of women from Roma communities with professional and policy dialogue,
  • developing recommendations for healthcare institutions and policymakers.

Our goal

Our goal is to contribute to ensuring that the experiences, needs and voices of Roma women are heard and taken into account in the development of health policies and the provision of healthcare.

We believe that Roma women should not only be recipients of healthcare, but also active agents of change in matters affecting their health, dignity and lives.

The RISE project is a joint journey towards healthcare that is dignified, safe, respectful, non-discriminatory and accessible to every woman.

We are implementing this project from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2028, in cooperation with our partner non-governmental organisation EMMA Egyesület, based in Hungary.
