What Can an Internship with the Centre for Civil and Human Rights Offer You?
For several years, we have been collaborating with the @Internship Clinic of the Faculty of Law at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, offering law students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of human rights protection.
During the past academic year, our intern Markéta was part of our team for two semesters. She contributed to the preparation of legal submissions, conducted legal research, and analysed court decisions. She also had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into our day-to-day work protecting the rights of Roma communities in Slovakia.
Reflecting on her internship, Markéta shared:
“My internship at the Centre for Civil and Human Rights gave me far more than I had expected. In addition to developing practical skills, such as working with case law and preparing legal submissions, lawsuits, complaints, and legal opinions, it also gave me a new perspective on the legal profession.
Through my involvement in fieldwork, I encountered the truly challenging life stories of people who are often left defenceless in their struggle to protect their fundamental human rights. It is in situations like these that the Centre steps in to provide support—a team of inspiring women with whom it was an honour to work. They became role models for me and a great source of inspiration for my future career in the legal profession.
If you see the law as a means of achieving justice, as a tool for combating injustice and discrimination, and if you want to stand alongside those defending the rights of minorities so that they can live with dignity, then the Centre for Civil and Human Rights is the ideal place for your professional and personal development.”*
Thank you, Markéta, for your dedication, enthusiasm, and kind words. We truly appreciate everything you contributed as a member of our team, and we wish you every success in your future career.
