Promoting human rights of Roma minority by using legal means of protection and in cooperation with local Roma activists
By this project we want to contribute to decreasing exposures of discrimination and other human rights violations against Roma in Slovakia. We will lead strategic court cases addressing discrimination. In selected cases we will provide concrete persons, who decide to resist discrimination by legal means, free legal aid. We will also carry out human rights monitoring in selected localities to document cases of discrimination, police violence and other violations of Roma minority. Last but not least, we will promote systemic changes in these areas in relation to the responsible state institutions. As part of the project, we will also organize a networking meeting of Roma activists who defended or still actively defending their rights, and we will publish a publication capturing their stories.
We will implement all project activities in close cooperation with Roma activists. Information about the project and its activities is available on our website and we will publish it on our social networks on an ongoing basis.
The project is implemented in a period from 1 September 2020 – 30 September 2022.
The project “Promoting human rights of Roma minority by using legal means of protection and in cooperation with local Roma activists” is supported by a program Active Citizens Fund – Slovakia that is financed from the Financial mechnism EEA 2014-2021. The program is managed by the Ekopolis Foundation in partnership with the Open Society Foundation and Carpathian Foundation.
