We have submitted an Alternative Report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child
In our alternative report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, we have reported on a number of violations of the rights of Roma children in Slovakia.
In particular, we drew the Committee’s attention to:
persistent discrimination against Roma children in access to education;
discrimination against Roma girls in access to reproductive health;
the lack of effective investigation of cases of police violence against the Roma minority, including Roma children;
the digital exclusion that Roma children also face in accessing digital technologies and skills;
legislation that also has a discriminatory impact on Roma children and young girls;
the failure to adopt legislation that allows for compensation for illegally sterilised Roma women and girls.
Next year, the Committee will consider whether our government is fulfilling its obligations under the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. We trust that the information we have provided will also assist it in this process.
