We are dealing with the case of separate education of Roma children in primary school
On the initiative of Roma mothers from the village of Kendice- Eastern Slovakia, we are dealing with a case of segregation of Roma children who are being educated at a local church school in Roma only classes in a separate school building.
We have filed a complaint with the national equality body, the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights , and have asked for an expert opinion on the case.
The Equality body issued the opinion in October 2024, pointing out the systemic violation of the prohibition of discrimination and the segregation of Roma pupils, which occurs due to the separate education of children at this primary school. We sent this opinion to the school management with a call to desegregate and to ensure the education of Roma children without discrimination.
