Meeting with Roma women from Luník IX
On November 11, 2025, the Civil and Human Rights Advisory Center met with Roma women from Luník IX. The meeting took place just one day after a tragic fire in Mašličkovo, in which two small children died and several families lost their homes. This event significantly influenced the course of the meeting and opened a discussion on the responsibility of the state and local governments to protect the fundamental rights and safety of people living in substandard conditions.
Together, we discussed the need for systemic and effective measures that could prevent similar tragedies and ensure decent living conditions for all.
The meeting also included a presentation of the work of the Civil and Human Rights Advisory Center in the area of protection against discrimination. We opened up topics such as the segregation of Roma women in maternity wards and discrimination in access to healthcare. The women shared their personal experiences and pointed out specific forms of unequal treatment they face.
At the end of the meeting, we discussed the possibilities of support in cases where persons affected by discrimination decide to seek protection of their rights.
We would like to thank all the women for their trust, openness, and willingness to share their experiences. Their voices are important for our future work in the field of human rights protection and the promotion of equality.
