Written Comments for the UN Committee against Torture concerning Slovakia

Our cooperation with European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) has been going on and we jointly submitted the written comments concerning Slovakia to the UN Committee against Torture for the consideration at its 55th session in the summer 2015. In our report we describe concrete shortcomings in the implementation of  the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in relation to Roma minority in Slovakia.

Written Comments for the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child concerning Slovakia

Poradňa in cooperation with European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) submitted the written comments to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child for the consideration to the 72nd Pre-Sessional Working Group in October 2015. In our joint written comments we describe a number of persisting shortcomings in the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in relation to Romani children in Slovakia.

The Court acquits police officers accused of abusing Roma boys from Luník IX

On 27 February 2015 the Košice District Court  ruled in a case of police ill-treatment against six Roma boys from Lunik IX at a police station in Košice from 2009. The court acquitted police officers accused of abusing Roma boys reasoning that the crime did not take place as alleged, and the prosecution thus failed to prove the abuse. The prosecutor has appealed the verdict.

Written Comments to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT)

Poradna  submitted the written comments to the European Committee for the Prevention of  Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT). The written comments provide actual information on occurrence of police ill-treatment against Roma minority during arrest or while in custodial detention and describe deficiencies in investigation processof such cases in Slovakia.

Poradna`s lawyer rewarded with the ‘Woman of Courage’ prize
